What to Expect at a Color Analysis Session

October 22, 2026 · By Nicole, founder of The Stylery Colour Studio

An in-person color analysis is a relaxed, private appointment where we compare professional fabric drapes against your face under true-color light, step by step, until we find the palette that brings you to life. A Signature Session takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, and you leave with a full toolkit for using your colors.

Curious what it actually feels like? Here's a look inside a session, including a video one of our clients shared.

"I loved my colour analysis session!! I highly recommend this if you've ever wondered what colors look best on you and even wondered about best hair, nail and make colors. Nicole was friendly and knowledgeable." Valencia G., Google review

Before your session

Once your appointment is confirmed, you'll receive an email with everything you need to know, including the studio address in St. Louis Park. Feel free to bring the makeup you love, since we review it together, and any past photos you'd like to share. Childhood and teen photos help us see how your coloring has changed over time.

What happens, step by step

  1. Your goals and color theory 101. We start with how you'd like color to work in your life, then the basics of why the right shades bring your features forward.
  2. Reading your natural coloring. With professional drapes, we study your undertone, value and chroma.
  3. Finding your season. We drape through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter to see which family harmonizes with you.
  4. Pinpointing your sub-season. We narrow down to the specific palette that suits you best.
  5. Your color superpowers. Your statement colors, essential neutrals, the shades you can borrow from other seasons, and how to keep wearing a favorite color that's outside your palette.
  6. Your signature look. Your best metals, makeup shades, and hair and nail colors.

You'll see the difference in the mirror as we go. In your colors, skin tends to look smoother and eyes brighter. In colors that clash, you may notice shadows, redness or a tired look.

The studio experience

Your session is private, solo or shared with friends, in a calm studio with professional true-color lighting. Water and snacks are provided, there's a private restroom, and there's plenty of time for questions about your wardrobe, makeup and hair.
